this post was meant to go up ages ago and i came across these images today, realizing i never put them up on the blog. shame on me! because they are great. i was in delhi last fall and had a last minute idea to do a quick photoshoot with some of the new summer pieces. you can't pass up being in a place as beautiful as delhi and not get some kind of photos. there are gorgeous crumbling sites, rich street life, exotic foliage at every turn (in fact, most delhi-ites i talk to admit they haven't even been to most of them-- it's so normal to see them that they start to blend in!). and thankfully the city that always seems to be under clouds and smog is a lighting dream as far as a shoot goes.
but finding a photographer and a model down to sneak into historical sites at 7am and change in the back of the car was not something i was sure i could do. and then, ah, my dear friend here in houston, siphti, came to my rescue. she contacted her designer friend in delhi who suggested karishma bedi. karishma is force and i thank my lucky stars she agreed to work with us. she shoots for vogue india, among other well known publications, and turns out she's down for anything, full of energy and ideas, and gave the gate guards a good talking to when they didn't want to let us take photos.
and sweet avanti! avanti was newbie at modeling, but you'd never know it. she gracefully took guidance, got her sea legs and by lunch, india's next top model was born. i was beaming as if she was my child! that face-- what a beautiful girl and MIRTH fit her so well. by the end of the day, when a photoshoot always borders on miserable, she was still positive as ever.
so here are some fun behind the scenes photos from the day. we shot a mix of what i had in my suitcase: summer collection, a few spring pieces and a handful of resort.
