made of a super fine "jamdani" weave, this fabric is a special form of handloom weaving, known for its "light as air" feel. it is woven in the homes of highly skilled weavers in tiny villages in west bengal, outside of the city of kolkata. this is a special fabric native only to this region. weavers create the motif border in the fabric using needle and thread while the fabric itself is being woven on the handloom. every part of the process takes place locally and without the aid of electricity. as the border is woven by sight, each one varies a bit and varies weaver to weaver. your purchase helps keep this heritage craft alive and gives consistent work to weavers and their families.
