sabi sand in royal blue
the all star sabi sand caftan is back, this time in a punchy blue. "woven wind," handloom cottons are sometimes called, and nothing is more true of this fabric. the fabric is so fine, it might be the softest and airiest fabric your skin has ever touched. the loose shape moves with you, roomy but flowy.
it takes 1 day to weave 1 meter of this fabric as the threads are so thin and the border is woven by hand. in all, a weaver spends a few days creating the fabric for just one caftan, all without the aid of electricity. it is woven in rural villages in west bengal by skilled weavers known for their abilities to create these special fabrics.
the sabi sand fabric is woven on a jacquard loom with a traditional temple border in white. slubs and occasional colored threads are common and normal, as are bands in the fabric due to the energy of the weaver, the humidity in the air and varying lots of hand-dyed yarns.
this new version of the sabi sand is lined in soft but sturdy cotton voile for durability. it is not transparent, so this is your new go-to for beach to dinner style.
note that the triangle motif and alignment varies from piece to piece.
take care when wearing and cleaning this fabric. we recommend hand washing in cold water with gentle detergent, or dry cleaning with minimal chemicals. our friends in india say to just soak in cold water, no soap, and air dry. we leave it to you!
